Society seems to have become a place where everyone wants to take an extreme position and then spend enormous amounts of energy arguing about why they are right, and anyone with a differing and usually opposite opinion is wrong. However, for society to successfully move forward there must be compromise and we end up somewhere between the two extremes. Or, somewhere in the “Middle Of The Road.” I really love how “middle of the road” can be shortened to a variation of an acronym for “MOTheR.” Mothers are great examples of having to bring various characteristics together to be the best mothers they can be, and they can’t hover at one extreme for too long and remain a successful mom.
I understand that sometimes, like when one is invaded as in an act of war, or if someone is attacking your child, that one must adopt the very extreme position and take action. However, for most areas that govern our lives we have to compromise to evolve.
Some background about myself that I’ll explain later in further detail later is that I was raised in conservative Orange County, California during the sixties and seventies as the son of immigrants. I was a bright kid with no athletic abilities and experienced a childhood where the foundation beneath me seemed to be slightly, but ever shifting. Conforming to expectations, I went to college, got married and had children. In my early thirties I admitted to myself and others that I was gay and the marriage ended. My former wife is still one of my dearest friends and I will always love her. I am grateful every day for having three fantastic children, and several grand children, some of whom are of Latin-American and Asian-American descent. I have been in a relationship with a wonderful man who is black that has lasted over twenty years.
I worked long hours developing a great career in the government sector, and had a hobby of fixing up and selling homes long before I ever heard the term “flipping houses.” After a set of circumstances that astounds me to this day, I signed a plea deal about five years ago that ended up with me serving 32 months in federal prison. I am now retired and have perspectives developed from years of experiences beyond that of the average person. After seeing small and large government in action, I am not a member of any political party, I do not hold opinions that seem to be espoused by most people on social media, Finally, I don’t care if you love them or hate them; I am going to share my opinions as I see them. And they’re usually coming from somewhere in the middle of the road.
(I know my English grammar isn’t perfect. Try to withhold the urge to correct my grammar. Thanks.)
